The thesis

A network is a closed system of trust, reputation, and shared economics. When one member transacts, every other member is affected. The franchise system that watches a peer sell to a low-fit acquirer learns something about its own optionality. The buying group that loses an anchor member to a strategic consolidator faces a coordination problem its leadership did not sign up to solve. These second-order effects are not edge cases. They are the defining feature of how value moves through these structures.

We treat the network as the primary unit of analysis, not the transaction. This shapes everything: how we screen mandates, how we structure engagement letters, how we run processes, how we counsel sellers, and how we communicate with buyers. It is also why we build long-term partnerships with networks themselves — not just one-off relationships with their members.

What we do

Sable Ridge runs three lines of work. We act as a preferred M&A advisor to captive networks, embedding within them as the recommended option for member transactions. We represent individual operators within those networks on sell-side engagements, with a deep understanding of how their system actually works. And we take a small number of independent SMB mandates per year where the situation fits our framework — typically owner-operator businesses in fragmented sectors that are adjacent to our core focus.

How we work

We are deliberately structured as a small, thesis-driven firm. The people who do the work and the people who set the firm's direction are largely the same people. There is no production-line analyst pool feeding senior bankers. We work hard, but on a relatively small number of mandates at any given time. Selectivity is part of the model.

Get in touch

We work with a small number of networks and operators at any given time. If you lead a buying group, franchise system, or other captive network and are evaluating preferred-advisor relationships, or if you are an operator within such a network considering a transition, we would value a confidential conversation.
